Medicare rebates

Accredited Mental Health Social  Workers (AMHSWs) are recognised by Medicare to provide mental health services under Better Access.

Patients with a Mental Health Treatment Plan are eligible for Medicare rebates for services provided by AMHSW. A mental health treatment plan will allow you to claim up to 10 individual counselling sessions each calendar year.  Your GP,  pediatrician or psychiatrist will asses your eligibility for this plan. If you're eligible, they will refer you for up to 6 sessions at a time. If you need  further sessions, they can provide you with another referral letter for more sessions.

Further  information about mental health treatment plans can also be found at Services Australia.
To receive a Medicare rebate for a Clinical Counselling session:

  1. Book an appointment with your health professional (GP or psychiatrist) to be assessed for a mental health treatment plan
  2. Your treating health professional will assess your mental health to determine if a mental health treatment plan would be beneficial for you
  3. If a mental health treatment plan is recommended, you can ask your  treating health professional to address a referral letter to:  Irene Pearson. Integrative Counselling and Wellbeing, Medicare Provider No. 1605601k
  4. Email your mental health treatment plan to  intergrativecws@gmail.com
  5. Submit a claim for a Medicare rebate for your Clinical Counselling session in your Medicare online account through myGov. We can also assist you with processing your Medicare rebate.

As we are not a crisis counselling service, if you need crisis counselling, please call Lifeline on 13 11 14. If you need immediate help, please call triple zero (000).
